Thomas Jefferson School of Law offers three exciting fellowship programs for students interested in Criminal Law (CL), Intellectual Property (IP) Law and Sports Law and Policy (SPL).
The Criminal Law Fellowship Program is designed for law students with a strong interest in pursuing a career in criminal law. It offers intensive criminal law exposure from the first day of law school through legal writing classes focusing on criminal issues. Criminal Law Fellows can be certified to practice in criminal court at the beginning of their second year of law school and all CL fellows spend two semesters working in a real criminal practice setting. They also receive preference to register for all advanced criminal law and procedure classes, including the highly sought after criminal law positions for third year students in the TJSL Veterans Legal Assistance Clinic.
The IP Fellowship Program provides superior access to intellectual property law in the classroom and in the field when compared to other IP-intensive programs of study. Fellows are exposed to IP issues from the first day of law school through their legal writing classes. In the second and third years, they can work one-on-one with professors on intellectual property-related scholarly projects and have the opportunity to work for academic credit with companies, law firms, and public entities that deal with intellectual property issues.
The Sports Law and Policy Fellowship Program (SLP) with the Center for Sports Law & Policy (CSLP) provides unprecedented opportunities for unique professional training and development. At most law schools, students have limited opportunities to take sports law courses and be involved in sports related externships. At Thomas Jefferson School of Law, our SLP fellows become involved with sports law on various levels beginning with the first semester and, in the second year, receive preference in registering for all sports law courses. Fellows also can gain valuable experience in the sports industry with for-credit externships and can participate in our Center for Sports Law and Policy, which offers timely conferences and speaker events on significant issues in sports law as well as other extremely educational and professional learning opportunities.
