Professor Rao is an intellectual property attorney and is admitted to the USPTO. She has represented early-stage companies, large companies and academic institutions in technology licensing, trademark and patent matters. Professor Rao worked in the general counsel’s office of the University of Massachusetts, supporting research, technology transfer and faculty literary and artistic endeavors. She has an engineering degree in Materials Science and worked for a number of years in Silicon Valley as an engineer in semiconductor manufacturing.

 

Professor Rao has been an adjunct professor at Roger Williams University School of Law in Rhode Island, where she taught Trademark Law.  She has also given licensing seminars at the Rhode Island School of Design, focusing on issues for artists.  She is on the Board of Directors for the Scripps Ranch Theatre and is a member of Lawyers Club of San Diego.
