I. Program Information
Applicants with a first degree in law from outside the United States who are admitted to our program may transfer in up to 29 credits of coursework towards the credits required for the Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree. These applicants, if admitted, may graduate in two years while earning the same J.D. degree that students in the three-year and four-year programs receive. Transfer students are fully integrated into the J.D. program. Students take the regular curriculum required of all J.D. students.
In addition to an undergraduate or graduate law degree, applicants to the transfer J.D. program must have excellent English language ability (as evidenced by TOEFL or IETLS scores) and a strong record of academic or professional accomplishment. Applicants are not required to take the LSAT exam.
Thomas Jefferson School of Law is fully accredited by the American Bar Association and is a member of the Association of American Law Schools.
II. Application Requirements
- Application form
- Translation and evaluation of law degree transcript, along with certified copy of original transcript
- TOEFL or IELTS score
- Completion of an approved English for Lawyers course
- Personal statement: One page about yourself and your reasons for applying to the program
- Resume/CV – detailed information about your academic and professional experience
- Letter of recommendation

III. Program Start Date
Each admission decision is made approximately 2-3 weeks from the time a completed application is received. All incoming students are required to attend the mandatory Week One Orientation program, a week before classes begin.
