Professor Steve Berenson, the Director of the TJSL’s Veterans Legal Assistance Clinic (VLAC), received a donation of $1500 from the Give Something Back Foundation, the charitable arm of the office supplier that TJSL uses to purchase supplies for the school.
This donation is the result of a competitive selection process, and online election, that Greg Neil ’08 initiated on behalf of the clinic when he was serving as Clinic Fellow last year, according to Professor Berenson who is the director of the clinic.
Ed Ecker, who is the Southern California Sales Manager for the company presented the clinic with a check on Thursday, March 31.
“We are pleased with the recognition of the good and important work the students are doing with the clinic,” said Professor Berenson.
Ecker was really happy to visit the new TJSL campus, “it’s amazing,” he said.
Give Something Back Office Supplies is the leading independent dealer of office supplies in the West, and the organization donates its profits to local non-profit groups.
The organization first became of aware of TJSL’s Veterans Clinic when Ecker and his colleagues saw the students in action, representing veterans in homeless court at the annual Stand Down event for homeless vets in Balboa Park.
The Thomas Jefferson School of Law Veterans Legal Assistance Clinic provides limited legal assistance, as well as full service legal representation, to the residents and alumni of Veterans Village of San Diego. Veterans Village is a highly successful, residential program that provides housing, substance abuse, mental health, and job training services to formerly homeless veterans who are struggling to regain full participation in society.
